About the event

Build a beautiful, functional chip-and-dip platter from clay in this beginner-friendly handbuilding class. Learn step-by-step slab-building techniques to create a main platter with an integrated dip well or matching mini bowl. Choose your glaze colour at the end, and our studio will fire and glaze your piece, ready for pickup in 2–3 weeks. Shipping is available for out-of-town guests.


Class Overview

  • Duration: 2 hours

  • Location: Next of Kiln Studio

  • Materials Provided: Stoneware clay, tools, templates, and food-safe glaze (you choose the colour)

  • Firing: Included—bisque and glaze firing done by our studio

  • Class Size: Limited to 10 participants (small group instruction)


What You Will Learn

  • How to roll and shape slabs for even, durable forms

  • Building a chip platter with an attached dip well or coordinating dip bowl

  • Joining, compressing, and smoothing seams for strength

  • Adding handles, rims, or texture for style and grip (optional)

  • Glaze selection tips to highlight texture and make cleanup easy


What You’ll Take Home

  • One custom handbuilt chip-and-dip platter (approx. 10–12 inches) with integrated well or matching bowl

  • Professionally fired and glazed, food-safe and ready for entertaining

  • Ready in 2–3 weeks for studio pickup, or we can ship it to you
