About the event
Take your clay skills to the next level in a guided, small-group series designed for potters with a foundational understanding of handbuilding. Over four weeks, you'll refine your techniques while exploring more advanced projects, new construction methods, and creative problem-solving — and enjoy expanded class times with 2.5 hour sessions. This series is designed to build on the skills you've already learned, helping you create more polished, intentional pieces alongside a supportive community of fellow makers.
This is hands-on, skill-focused, and intentionally small so you have the space to deepen your craft, experiment with new techniques, and continue growing your confidence with clay.

Week-by-Week Breakdown
Week 1 —
What you’ll make: Lidded Jars/ Garlic Containers
Skill focus: Building on slab cylinder fundamentals by adding fitted lids, galleries, surface texture, and controlled clay removal to your skill set.
Dates & Times:

Week 2 —
What you’ll make: Bread Dipping Serving Plate
Skill focus: Exploring the relationship between planning texture for function through controlled clay removal, with a multi functional serving piece as a base.
Dates & Times:
→ Sunday, Sept 13, 1–3:30pm
Week 3 —
What you’ll make: Pho/ Soup Bowl
Skill focus: A progression in form building, exploring altering structure for function and incorporating footing on bowls.
Dates & Times:
→ Sunday, Sept 20, 1–3:30pm
Week 4 — Glaze Day: Exploring Surface Design Through Underglaze and Wax Resist
What you’ll do: Learn glazing techniques, finish all your creations
Skill focus: Layering decorative surface techniques using underglaze, carving, and wax resist.

Projects are intended as a guide to teach specific skills, and students are welcome to apply those techniques to their own creative ideas during class. All pieces are yours to take home — functional, decorative, and completely handmade by you.
Details at a Glance
Cohort size: 10 participants
Who it’s for: Potters with a foundational knowledge of clay and handbuilding. We recommend completing our Beginner Handbuilding Series (or having equivalent experience) before registering, as this course builds on the techniques learned there. If you have only participated in our one day workshops, we recommend registering for the Beginner Series.
Attendance: Recommended for all 4 sessions to get the full experience
Class Duration: 2.5 hrs (class lengths may vary, give yourself a buffer)
If a session conflicts with your schedule, we’ll do our best to accommodate, but spots are limited and swaps aren’t guaranteed. Please allow a buffer at the end of your scheduled class time in case projects run longer than expected.
